Ashwani “Ash” Sastry, MD
Dr. Ashwani “Ash” Sastry is an interventional cardiologist with extensive experience in the treatment of peripheral arterial disease, critical limb ischemia, venous disease, and cardiovascular disease. As a co-founder of Sunrise Vascular, he is dedicated to bringing advanced, limb-saving treatments to patients in underserved communities.
Dr. Sastry is triple board certified in cardiovascular diseases, interventional cardiology, and endovascular medicine, a rare combination that allows him to treat the full spectrum of vascular and cardiac conditions with exceptional expertise. His clinical focus centers on complex peripheral interventions and limb salvage, helping patients avoid amputation through minimally invasive techniques.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Sastry has made significant contributions to the advancement of medical device technology. He has worked extensively with the FDA Office of Device Evaluation, providing expert advice and recommendations on the safety and effectiveness of novel vascular and cardiac devices. He holds multiple patents for innovative vascular and cardiac devices, reflecting his commitment to improving patient outcomes through technological innovation.
Dr. Sastry completed his cardiology training at Duke University Medical Center, where he was honored with the Walter Floyd Fellowship “Best Fellow of the Year” award. He then pursued advanced training in interventional cardiology and endovascular intervention at the Center for Interventional and Vascular Therapy at Columbia University. Following his fellowship, he returned to Duke University as Assistant Professor of Medicine in Cardiology, where he trained interventional cardiology fellows at the Duke University Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and single-handedly built a comprehensive program for limb salvage and the treatment of critical limb ischemia.
Driven by a passion for saving limbs and improving lives, Dr. Sastry says, “Every patient deserves access to the most advanced treatments available. Our mission is to ensure that no one loses a limb simply because they live in a rural area without access to specialized care.”
